Ethiopia pledges to include about 1 mln refugees in its national statistics

The Government of Ethiopia has made a strategic pledge to integrate existing national services for refugees, which is crucial for the successful implementation of the GCR objectives and the country’s pledges.
Announcing the pledge, RRS Deputy Director General Mulualem Desta said inclusive data system is essential to ensure that refugees have access to education, health, livelihoods and other public services and development opportunities.
However, Mulualem highlighted that there is lack of adequate data and evidence to monitor and evaluate the outcomes and impacts of the GRF pledges and to inform policy and programming decisions.
That is why the government has established an enabling environment that supports the integration of refugee services into the national system, he added.
The inclusion of refugees in the national statistics is an effort to achieve GCR objectives where it needs a multi-year partnership to translate our pledges into meaningful action.
