RRS Holds Strategic Discussion with UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Addis Ababa
(Addis Ababa: 11 June 2025) – The Senior Management Team of Refugees and Returnees Service – RRS held a high-level discussion with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and his delegation at UNHCR Office in Addis Ababa.
During the discussion, RRS expressed appreciation for UNHCR’s continued support in Ethiopia’s refugee operations.
The team also briefed the delegation on the government’s key achievements, challenges faced due to funding shortages and the progress of the Makatet (ማካተት) Roadmap – an initiative aimed at integrating refugees into national systems.
High Commissioner Grandi acknowledged Ethiopia’s indispensable role in hosting large refugee population and lauded the country’s refugee-centered policies.
Filippo reaffirmed UNHCR’s commitment to continued collaboration, particularly in emergency responses, praising the Makatet Roadmap and its pillars, especially climate action, as a globally relevant approach capable of attracting broader support.
In closing, RRS briefed the HC about organizational reform efforts aimed at effective resource utilization, including improvements in fleet and human resource management.
