The Director General of Refugees and Returnees Service – RRS Teyiba Hassen hosted UNHCR Special Advisor Per Heggenes, where they discussed improving energy access for refugees in Ethiopia.
During the meeting, Heggenes emphasized the role of energy as a key driver of economic development, highlighting its importance for both refugees and host communities.
He noted that addressing both the demand and supply of energy is critical in achieving long-term results.
Teyiba reaffirmed the Advisor of Ethiopia’s commitment to expand irrigation systems in Melkadida with private sector engagement and urged him to support in fundraising efforts for its climate action initiatives.
She also stressed the importance of access to energy and economic inclusion for refugees as part of the country’s broader development commitments.
