At the 2nd Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen delivered a notable remark, advocating mainly for refugee support.

The DPM said: “As most displaced people are hosted by developing countries, we should work together to enhance refugees’ self-reliance and host communities’ resilience.”

He announced six new policy commitments on Climate Action, Urbanization of Refugee Camps, Refugee Inclusion, Access to Irrigation, Private Sector Engagement and Digital Connectivity to the plenary.

While reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to translate its progressive policy into action, the DPM emphasized on the importance of burden and responsibility sharing and called for support from the global community.
