Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) today received a Kenyan Multi-Agency Delegation for a courtesy call to discuss the situation of Kenyan refugees in Dillo and Megado, Borena Zone, Oromia Region, and advance preparations for voluntary, dignified repatriation and reintegration in their country of origin.
The delegation, led by Madam Commissioner Mwasaro Mercy of the Department of Refugee Services (DRS), was accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Galma M. Boru, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Ethiopia. The guests were received by RRS Deputy Directors General Ato Bruthesfa Mulugeta and Ato Mulualem Desta. Representatives of UNHCR Ethiopia, UNHCR Kenya, and the UNHCR Regional Office also participated.
Discussions highlighted the interest expressed by the refugee community and findings of the intention survey, underscoring the importance of close coordination among all partners to ensure an orderly, voluntary, and dignified return process.
All parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the next steps of voluntary repatriation. The joint team will proceed with a field visit to the Dillo and Megado settlements to engage directly with the refugee communities and discuss the way forward.
