Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) Director General Teyiba Hassen today held discussions with the Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Sune Krogstrup, on strengthening cooperation to advance refugee inclusion and sustainable solutions in Ethiopia.
The discussions highlighted opportunities to enhance collaboration with private foundations, including the LEGO Foundation, Grundfos Foundation, and Novo Nordisk Foundation, to support refugee inclusion and expand sustainable development opportunities.
A key focus of the meeting was supporting the implementation of Ethiopia’s MAKATET Roadmap, with particular emphasis on refugee self-reliance, sustainable livelihoods, agricultural and livestock value chains, private-sector engagement, and strengthening government systems to promote the socioeconomic inclusion of refugees and host communities.
The two sides also explored opportunities to advance the Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus, including ongoing initiatives with the Agricultural Transformation Institute to identify and promote agricultural development opportunities in the Somali Region.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed potential support for new arrivals crossing into Ethiopia, emphasizing the importance of responding to immediate humanitarian and protection needs while pursuing long-term, sustainable solutions.
Strengthened partnerships, agricultural transformation, and coordinated humanitarian and development interventions are essential to translating the MAKATET Roadmap into practical action. These efforts aim to promote refugee self-reliance, foster inclusive economic growth, and advance sustainable solutions that benefit both refugees and host communities.
