Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), with financial support from UNICEF, is conducting a training program in Semera Town for stakeholders drawn from the justice, peace and security, and social sectors on the Justice for Children Training Manual, with a particular focus on refugee children in Ethiopia.
The training aims to raise awareness and strengthen ongoing efforts to promote child protection and ensure improved access to justice within refugee communities.
The initiative seeks to enhance participants’ understanding of child rights and legal protection frameworks, strengthen capacities on child-sensitive justice approaches, improve case identification, referral, and follow-up mechanisms, support efforts to prevent and respond to Violence Against Children (VAC), and foster stronger coordination and collaboration among key stakeholders.
Participants are taking part in sessions covering a range of key thematic areas, including legal and policy frameworks for child protection, core principles of Justice for Children, child-friendly communication and ethical standards, case management and referral pathways, as well as the role of communities in preventing and responding to violence against children.
The program commenced following the successful conclusion of a similar training conducted at the same venue for Refugee Community Representatives on the previous day, ensuring continuity in efforts to enhance awareness and capacity on justice and child protection issues within refugee settings.
