The capacity building workshop held in Addis Ababa on refugee protection and national, regional and international legal and policy framework plus the “Makatet Roadmap” and global burden-and-responsibility sharing has been concluded.
The Chairperson of Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives Dr. Dima Negewo assured his committee’s readiness to support Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) in its endeavor to serve refugees protected in Ethiopia.
The Chairperson further outlined that apart from economic integration, political solution is the way out to curb displacement in the IGAD region.
RRS Deputy Director General Yakab Yala for his part said that the role of legislators in formulating viable refugee legal framework and of executive organs in implementing the tools is indispensable to managing Ethiopia’s refugee response.
He seized the moment and called on relevant partners, including IGAD to exert maximum efforts toward ensuring durable solution for refugees and their gracious hosting communities.
IGAD Head of Mission to Ethiopia Abebaw Bihonegn also said that the Authority is committed to keep supporting such capacity development initiatives in the pursuit to ensure better understanding about the vast and complex refugee operation in the region.
Members of Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives and delegates of federal institutions were in attendance to the three-day program organized by RRS and IGAD.
