A Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop for RRS Head Office and Branch Office protection staff on the “Justice for Children Training Manual” has kicked off in Adama city on 14 May 2026.

The Workshop is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to effectively deliver the “Justice for Children Training Manual” across RRS’ scope of operation.

In his opening remarks, RRS Deputy Director General Bruhtesfa Mulugeta emphasized that such capacity-building programs are essential in equipping staff with the knowledge and skills needed to better serve persons of concern.

Underscoring the significance of the training, Bruhtesfa urged participants to actively engage in the sessions and ensure the success of the program as they are expected to provide training to regional justice institutions and refugee leaders.

Through interactive sessions, group discussions and contextualized exercises, the training aims to deepen the understanding of participants on child rights, child-friendly justice procedures and the legal and institutional frameworks that safeguard the protection and well-being of refugee children.

The initiative marks an important step toward building a stronger pool of trainers who will play an important role in cascading knowledge and promoting justice systems that are more responsive, inclusive and protective of children’s rights across the Service’s outreach.

From the workshop, participants are expected to be better equipped to champion child-centered justice approaches and contribute to creating safer and more supportive environment for refugee children.

The training has been organized by Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) in partnership with UNICEF, whereas Addis Ababa University has prepared the “Training Manual” and is delivering the ToT.
