An RRS delegation led by Director General Teyiba Hassen meets with the Chief of Gambella Regional State.
The delegation engaged in discussions with the Regional State Chief Alemitu Umod, highlighting the region’s long-standing tradition of welcoming and protecting refugees and asylum seekers displaced by natural and man-made calamities.
During the discussion, Alemitu underscored Gambella’s rich history of hosting refugees in alignment with international laws adopted by the Government of Ethiopia; adding that many refugees are living peacefully in different parts of the region.
The Chief has also called on relevant stakeholders to uphold their responsibilities to ensure that refugees positively contribute to peace and development endeavors in the region.
RRS Director General Teyiba Hassen acknowledged the collaboration between the Service and Gambella Regional State, emphasizing the need to enhance ongoing joint development projects.
Teyiba expressed gratitude to the regional state for hosting large number of refugees in Ethiopia, and reaffirmed RRS’ commitment to working closely with the region on projects aimed at driving substantial and effective outcome.
Having congratulated the newly appointed officials of the region, the Director General encouraged continued cooperation between the community and the new leadership to foster peace.
The discussion was attended by Regional Vice Chief Dr. Gatluak Ron, RRS Deputy Director General Yakob Yala and officials and colleagues from RRS Gambella Branch Office.
