Dillo site gets much anticipated water supply, which benefits both refugees and their gracious hosts.

Kenyan Borana refugees and their hosts in Dillo Woreda get access to sustainable drinking water supply thanks to the collaboration among @RRSEthiopia, #UNHCR, #Caritas_Switzerland and relevant local government actors.

Since 2005, Dillo and Megado sites in Borana Zone of Oromia State have been hosting 4,037 refugees facing prolongedchallenges, particularly water and sanitation due to their remote locations and insufficient infrastructure, complicating support efforts for aid organizations.

In response, a tri-partite agreement in 2024 among @RRSEthiopia, UNHCR and Caritas Switzerland has led to significant improvements Where the international Swiss NGO came up with both matching fund contribution and implementation commitments.

Now, Dillo site has got a 2.5 km HDPE pipeline extension from the existing 40 km main line of Dillo town and the construction of 25,000-liter reservoir and rehabilitation of three water points.

This project benefits 1,535 refugees and 1,500 host communities, providing 20 liters of water per person per day, highlighting the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in addressing humanitarian needs and improving community relations.

This has been witnessed by the joint monitoring visit of officials and experts from @RRSEthiopia, UNHCR and Caritas Switzerland.

As this partnership progresses, it is anticipated that remaining commitments of 14.5 km of pipeline work at Megado site will be met and additional initiatives will be launched to deal with other pressing needs in those communities.
