In a significant move towards enhancing bilateral ties on migration issues, Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) Deputy Director General Biruhtesfa Mulugeta hosted a delegation led by Peter Schuurman, the Special Envoy for Migration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
The meeting focused on key migration-related topics, including strategies for improving cooperation on return and reintegration between Ethiopia and the Netherlands.
During the discussion, Biruhtesfa noted the need to explore ways to effectively manage migration challenges, highlighting the importance of building sustainable framework that addresses the needs and rights of refugee returnees and migrant returnees, ensuring that the process is humane and well-managed.
He also underscored the necessity for continued collaboration between the two countries to better manage migration and enhance mutual understanding of migration governance, emphasizing on shared responsibility and sustainable solutions to migration issues.
Mr. Peter Schuurman on his part commended Ethiopia’s commitment to fostering constructive partnership with international stakeholders to ensure the protection and dignity of migrants, especially those returning to their home country.
The Special Envoy also highlighted his country’s keenness to support Ethiopia’s “Makatet” roadmap as it aligns with the response mechanism to the global displacement situation.
