The Director General of @RRSEthiopia Teyiba Hassen hosted Ambassador Ronald Micallef of the Republic of Malta today. The two discussed key issues related to migration, focusing on the reintegration of migrant returnees in Ethiopia.
Teyiba emphasized the government’s citizen-focused diplomacy, which values Ethiopians worldwide regardless of migration status. She expressed gratitude to Malta for its dignified handling of Ethiopian irregular migrants and its collaboration in the return and reintegration process.
The Director General also highlighted areas for increased partnership, including the development of a centralized data management system for tracking returnees, the creation of government-led reception centers for shelter and services, long-term reintegration programs and efforts to prevent irregular migration.
Ambassador Micallef for his part expressed commitment to furthering the partnership between Ethiopia and Malta, underscoring the shared responsibility of both nations in addressing migration challenges.
He acknowledged Ethiopia’s efforts in managing migration and expressed Malta’s interest to continue supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of Ethiopians, both locally and abroad.
The meeting concluded on a positive note with both parties agreeing to continue working together to address migration-related issues and to support the reintegration of Ethiopian returnees.
