RRSEthiopia Director General Teyiba Hassen hosted @mamadou_dbalde, where they engaged in a meaningful engagement on the current situation of refugees in Ethiopia.
In their discussion, the two identified that basic services are in a very critical situation and the standard of humanitarian services is increasingly at stake.
“We explored the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the pursuit of advancing the refugee response in Ethiopia, ensuring that it remains effective and impactful,” DG Teyiba said.
She said that they thoroughly examined the existing frameworks and policies, identifying areas where improvements can be made to better support refugees and host communities alike.
“We discussed innovative approaches that could be implemented to enhance the resilience and self-reliance of refugees and host communities, empowering them to rebuild their lives with dignity,” Mamadou said.
They also discussed at length about access to National ID, Machine-Readable Convention Travel Documents and resettlement opportunities, among other things.
Implementing multi-year registration strategy, launching the MAKATET Roadmap, supporting Community-Based Health Insurance, Refugee-Led Organizations, Sudanese refugees in Addis Ababa and reinforcing protection at some refugee centers were also among the major talking points.
The discussion between the two marks an important step forward in the shared commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for refugees and host communities towards sustainable solution.
