Down Syndrome and Other Intellectual Disabilities Pan-African Empowerment Forum

Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) attended the Down Syndrome and Other Intellectual Disabilities Pan-African Empowerment Forum, which took place @ the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) based in Addis Ababa.

In the continental forum, dedicated to empowering youth and adults with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, RRS was represented by Zewdu Bedada, Advisor to the Director General of the Service and Misrak Mohammed, Women and Children Team Leader.

RRS’ participation in the forum underscored its commitment to advocacy, inclusion and empowerment for individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring their active involvement in the African community.

The event provided a unique opportunity to engage with key stakeholders from across the continent, including children and youth with Down Syndrome from Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and other African nations, whose remarkable talents and resilience highlighted the need for greater advocacy and support for individuals with disabilities.

In addition to the empowerment and advocacy initiatives, the forum also emphasized the importance of creating inclusive environments and accessible opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

RRS remains committed to contributing to the ongoing efforts in fostering a more inclusive society, particularly for vulnerable groups such as refugees, returnees, host communities and individuals with intellectual disabilities.
