This afternoon, the Director General of the Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), Teyiba Hassen, received the Executive Director of Mary Joy Ethiopia, Sister Zebider Zewdie, at her office for a courtesy meeting.
During the discussion, the Director General provided a comprehensive overview of the refugee situation in Ethiopia, highlighting ongoing response efforts as well as key operational and resource challenges in delivering essential services to refugees and host communities.
DG Teyiba commended Mary Joy Ethiopia for its meaningful contributions in the areas of health, education, and livelihood support—particularly its initiatives supporting elderly care and street children centers, along with major infrastructure projects such as the establishment of a dialysis center in Addis Ababa and another currently under construction in Hawassa.
Sister Zebider reaffirmed Mary Joy Ethiopia’s strong interest in expanding its engagement in refugee operations, with a focus on WASH, health, education, livelihood support, and emergency interventions.
The two sides also discussed prevailing funding constraints affecting refugee operations and vulnerable host communities nationwide. They agreed to further strengthen their collaboration through a formal partnership framework in the future.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to enhancing humanitarian response efforts and improving support for vulnerable populations.
